Overview & Highlights

Welcome to Russell's Fireside Dining Room, a hidden gem nestled within the stunning landscape of Glacier National Park, specifically located at 288 Lake McDonald Lodge Loop in West Glacier, MT. This enchanting restaurant showcases a delightful blend of hearty fare and rustic charm, making it a popular pit stop for adventurers exploring the nearby trails.

One of the highlights of Russell's is its outdoor-inspired menu, which features an array of starters that make your taste buds dance. You can indulge in the Smoked Columbia River Steelhead Trout for $16 or savor the comforting Curry Lentil Soup priced at just $6.50. For those seeking something heartier, their signature Huckleberry Elk Burger, noted for its unique flavor profile, is a must-try at $21.25. The House Salad is worth a mention as well, showcasing fresh ingredients for $10, perfect for a refreshing start to your meal.

The ambiance at Russell’s is equally noteworthy. The dining room exudes a cozy warmth, thanks in part to the wooden decor that recalls days gone by, while large windows invite the breathtaking scenery of Lake McDonald directly into your dining experience. The atmosphere can be lively and energetic, particularly during the summer season when visitors flock to experience the beauty of Montana. As one recent diner noted, “the food is fresh and yummy," complemented by a clean environment and attentive staff who are eager to share their recommendations.

However, some reviews suggest that the culinary experience may not entirely match the upscale pricing. While the quality and portions of the meals might not reach expectations for every guest, the overall experience of dining in such a historic setting often overshadows concerns about value. A guest aptly described the environment as “classic and cozy,” and while opinions on the food may vary, the picturesque setting and friendly service create a balanced experience.

Whether you’re stopping in for a quick lunch after a long hike or settling in to enjoy a warm bowl of Hardwood Smoked Pork Shoulder for $15, Russell's Fireside Dining Room captures the essence of nourishment and hospitality. Don’t forget to indulge in their famed Huckleberry Pie a la mode—it's a sweet finale you won’t want to miss.

In essence, Russell's Fireside Dining Room offers more than just sustenance; it presents an opportunity to unwind amidst the grandeur of nature while enjoying a flavorful meal. For adventurous souls seeking both taste and ambiance in Glacier National Park, this charming dining venue is a worthwhile experience to embrace.

I get there for Vacation and bought the trip "Going to the Sun Road" by "Red Bus Tour " and dropped like Lunch time at The Lodge McDonald's " The redraurant nane Russell's Fireside" the food are fresh and yummy!!, the restaurant like busy and a little bit noise!! but I know that is the Summer times that everybody travel and get in there for eat , the staffs were so nice !! and let's us know about the food and something special!!..the restaurant so clean I love the food and I will be back again.

I have been to Russell’s Dining Room at Lake McDonald Lodge and the food was just ok. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out either. For the price, I expected something a lot better. It’s not just expensive… it’s way, way, way too expensive for what you’re actually getting. The portions weren’t large, and the quality didn’t match the fine dining prices they’re charging. That said, the atmosphere is amazing. The historic lodge setting, the woodwork, the views through the big windows—it all feels classic and cozy. It’s a beautiful place to sit down and take a break, especially after a long day on the trails. The service was good and the staff was friendly, which helped balance out the experience a little. But when it comes down to the meal itself, you’re mostly paying for the location and ambiance. If you’re fine with that and want to enjoy the setting, it’s worth trying once. But if you’re after great food for the money, I’d look somewhere else. I’ve had better meals elsewhere in the park at half the cost. I don’t regret going, but I probably wouldn’t eat there again unless I just wanted the view.

Lovely restaurant within the Lake McDonald Lodge within Glacier National Park while visiting friends in Montana. Had an entree for breakfast: scrambled eggs, wheat toast, roasted potatoes, and four slices of wheat toast. My tea was really good. Enjoyed the venue

Great location. Very popular place. Very busy at lunch. Extremely long line to sit when lunch opens BUT they have plenty of seating so the line goes fast. There warm Huckleberry pie a la mode is absolutely a must get. I got there Huckleberry elk burger which had a fantastic combination of fixings that complimented everything really well. The charcuterie board was also fantastic, which included bison pastrami and smoked duck as well as some really great pickled onions and pickles. The Huckleberry tea was so good I had to check their gift shop to see if they sold it there. Unfortunately they sold all flavors but that one.

Nice dining room with good decor. We came in a big group with the red bus tour. The line got backed up, which is fine, and we got into the dining room about 15 minutes later. I had the house salad, which was good but took my server telling me a couple different times that he was bringing it before he did. The burger and fries were good but a little dry for the burger patty. I had to eat quickly because we were late to get back on the bus. Good meal and lunch isn't too expensive. I wish I had more time to enjoy.

The food was typically delicious. We had one or two minor temperature problems in our five nights of dining. The huckleberry pie is not to be missed. The fingerling potatoes at dinner and the home fries at breakfast are amazing. The staff are incredibly friendly but especially Allyson, Jax, and Stephanie
